Mayor Maturo, Senator Fasano and Councilman McCann Petition State for Traffic Light

October 30, 2006

East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo, State Senator Len Fasano (R-East Haven) and East Haven Town Councilman Dan McCann, who is a candidate for State Representative in the 99th District, have petitioned the State Department of Transportation to place a traffic light at the corner of Mansfield Grove Road and Short Beach Road. Police Chief Len Gallo has also written numerous letters requesting a light for this notably dangerous intersection that has been the site of a variety of automobile accidents.

“This is one of the most dangerous intersections in the Town of East Haven. It has been a long battle from the early 1990’s to today to get this done,” says Councilman McCann, who went door-to-door obtaining signatures on a petition to the Department of Transportation requesting the traffic light. “There have been a number of accidents at this intersection, one resulting in a fatality, and the best solution is a traffic light.”

McCann has led this initiative with the help of Mayor Maturo and Senator Fasano. Both are fully supportive of the idea and have requested that the Department of Transportation to comply and add a traffic light.

“I think Dan’s approach with a ‘grass roots’ petition, coupled with Mayor Maturo’s effort and my help at the State level, we may be able to get a reaction out of the State”, added Senator Fasano.
